From the Archives: Colson Whitehead and Jeffrey Toobin

For now, another high-powered visit from the past, this one from 2016, when Colson Whitehead spoke about “The Underground Railroad,” which ended up as one of the Book Review’s 10 Best Books that year. It also won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. Whitehead talks about his inspirations for the book and much more.

Jeffrey Toobin was also on the show, to discuss “American Heiress,” his book about the riveting case of Patty Hearst. On the podcast, he situates the case within the larger craziness of the 1970s. Also on this week’s episode, Wesley Morris and Book Review editors talked about what they were reading. Pamela Paul is the host.
